Chasing the Tide: A Coastal Adventure at Allonby Beach

There is something truly magical about the Solway coast, especially when you add two beautiful horses and their riders into the mix. Today, I headed down to Allonby for a session that was the definition of "expect the unexpected"—and I wouldn't have had it any other way!

The Dream Team

I was joined by Shianne and her lovely mare, Tilly, along with Imogen and the handsome Leo. From the moment we hit the sand, the vibe was incredibly relaxed and fun. There was no pressure, no stiff posing—just two friends enjoying the vast open space of the Cumbrian coastline with their horses.

Racing the Solway Tide

If you know Allonby, you know the tide doesn't mess around! We were having such a great time capturing some candid moments and gorgeous silhouettes that the water almost caught us off guard.

We definitely had to make some "quick moves" to keep our boots dry (mostly!) as the tide came rushing in. It added a bit of adrenaline to the shoot and actually resulted in some of my favorite shots of the day—there’s nothing like the natural energy of a horse reacting to the splashing surf!

Why Allonby?

For any equestrian in Cumbria, Allonby offers that rare sense of freedom. The soft sand and the way the light hits the water across to Scotland creates a backdrop that you just can't find anywhere else.

Watching Tilly and Leo find their "sea legs" was a highlight. Whether they were strolling through the shallows or picking up the pace along the water's edge, both Shianne and Imogen looked completely at home.

Capturing the Bond

Today wasn't about "perfect" hair or polished tack; it was about the raw, messy, beautiful bond between a rider and her horse.

Huge thanks to Shianne, Imogen, Tilly, and Leo for being such good sports (and for the fast footwork when the waves arrived!). I can’t wait to get these edits finished and share the full gallery with you all.
