Adelyne & Charm

Tiny Rider, Big Personality: A Magical Day with Adelyne & Charm

There is an old saying in the horse world: "Shetlands have the biggest hearts and the hungriest bellies." After my recent session near Cockermouth, I can officially confirm this is 100% true!

I had the absolute pleasure of spending the morning at a local riding school with Adelyne, a bright and determined 6-year-old, and her adorable Shetland pony, Charm.

The Determined Duo

Working with young children and ponies requires a lot of patience, a bit of silliness, and a quick shutter finger. Adelyne was an absolute superstar—she gave 100% effort, following every direction and showing a maturity beyond her six years.

Charm, on the other hand, had a slightly different agenda: The Grass. Despite Charm’s constant attempts to sample the local greenery, we managed to capture that beautiful, unspoken bond that only exists between a girl and her first pony. It’s those giggles and "can you stop eating?" moments that make these galleries so authentic.

One Location, Three Distinct Looks

The riding school near Cockermouth provided the perfect variety for our session. We took advantage of three very different setups to give Adelyne’s family a diverse gallery:

  • The Open Ground: We started in the open fields to catch that big Cumbrian sky, giving us plenty of room for Adelyne and Charm to walk and interact naturally.

  • The Woodland: We moved into the trees for some softer, more whimsical shots. The dappled light through the leaves added a touch of magic to the photos, making Adelyne look like she’d stepped right out of a fairytale.

  • The Signature Black Background: To finish, we headed into the stable doorway for some high-end, fine art "black background" portraits. These shots are always a favorite, as they strip away all distractions and focus entirely on the beautiful features of the pony and the rider.

Capture Your Own Memories

Whether your horse is a perfect professional or—like Charm—a bit of a rebel when it comes to snacks, these sessions are about documenting your life as it is right now. These are the photos Adelyne will look back on in twenty years and remember exactly what it felt like to lead her best friend through the woods.
