Newcastle Urban Photoshoot

Urban Edge: A Street Style Session on the Newcastle Quayside

There is an undeniable energy to Newcastle upon Tyne that you just don’t find anywhere else. From the Victorian ironwork of the bridges to the vibrant, ever-changing graffiti in the hidden corners of the city, it’s a street photographer’s playground.

Recently, I headed down to the Newcastle Quayside for an urban-themed shoot with the incredible Chanel. The goal? To capture the contrast between high-fashion "urban" styling and the raw, industrial textures of the North East.

The Icons: From the High Level to the Millennium Bridge.

We started our session at the High Level Bridge. If you’ve ever walked the lower deck, you know the atmosphere—the rhythmic rumble of trains overhead and the way the light filters through the rivets. It provided the perfect "gritty" backdrop for Chanel’s look.

From there, we chased the lines across the city’s most iconic structures:

  • The Swing Bridge: Its bright red ironwork added a brilliant pop of color to our frames.

  • The Millennium Bridge: We used the sleek, futuristic curves of the "Blinking Eye" to shift the vibe from industrial to modern.

  • The Quayside: Walking along the Tyne gave us that classic Newcastle scale, with the bridges layering beautifully in the background.

Finding Art in the Streets

One of the highlights of the day was wandering away from the main path to find some of Newcastle's local graffiti. There’s something special about using street art as a backdrop—it’s fleeting, bold, and perfectly matched the "relaxed" energy we had going all afternoon.

The Vibe: Relaxed & Creative

The best photos happen when the shoot feels less like work and more like a creative hangout. Chanel was an absolute pro—punctual, perfectly styled for the urban theme, and naturally effortless in front of the lens. We spent as much time laughing as we did shooting, and I think that energy really translates into the final images.

Whether you’re a model looking to build a portfolio or a brand needing an edgy, city-based aesthetic, Newcastle is the place to be. Between the bridges and the hidden alleys, the possibilities are endless.

Chanel and I are already planning our next session—stay tuned to see where we head next!
